The Rāroan —

First Impressions as Year Eight Students

On the first day of school we were super excited to be starting our second year at Rāroa Intermediate. Being a year eight comes with loads of new opportunities and responsibilities such as helping the year sevens find where they are going, leading the way in Rāroa songs and making sure others are comfortable in their new class.

One of our favourite things so far this year has been Extreme Writing! If you enjoy creative learning over sports or athletics, you should definitely talk to Mrs Dunn about her range of extra curricular lessons. These also includes Mathletes, Science Fair and Tournament of the Minds.

If you prefer sports, there are heaps of teams you can try out for. This ranges from football to underwater hockey and everything in between. Even if you’ve never played before, the coaches are always open to helping teach you new tricks and strategies, so you should definitely give them a go. If you want an extra challenge, Mr Bailey hosts Fit Fridays at 7:55- 8:30 every (you guessed it…) Friday in the hall. It’s an amazing way to get pumped up and ready for the day.

At first, it was very daunting not knowing the names of our classmates, but with help from the teachers, we’ve created positive relationships with each other and nailed the names! Getting to know each other’s interests is a very important part in working well with people you don’t know.

In conclusion, we have really enjoyed our experience as year eights so far and can't wait to see what comes next in 2023!
