This year we are celebrating Maths Week with a variety of competitions.

We will have a class vs class Education Perfect challenge running, a lunchtime house competition and an inaugural Real Life Maths Competition. This last challenge is a way to support students to see the many ways in which maths is used in our everyday life. The best bit, this challenge is open to both students and our parent community! That’s right, you can win prizes too.

The challenge is simple, create a short, entertaining video clip demonstrating a real life maths moment in action. The more unique, and unexpected, the better! Think… sports statistics, rollercoaster acceleration, the art of packing the boot for a family holiday…

Video Criteria:

• Explain / show what maths is involved

• As entertaining / surprising / fascinating as possible

• Videos no longer than 1 minute

• Deadline Friday 11th August

• Submit your entry by uploading your video to Google Drive and sharing a link to Clem Westlake c.westlake@raroa.school.nz

The winning entry from our community will bag themselves a family pass to Wellington Zoo! Students will then be judged independently for their own 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes.

Prize winners will be announced in our Week 5 school assembly and we will share some inspiration with you via our Hero Community Feed during the lead up to get those creative, mathematical ideas flowing!
