The Kids' Lit Quiz Wellington regional trials

The Rāroan —

It was finally time for the horde of Wellington readers from Years 5 to 8 to compete against each other for a chance to enter the NZ National Final in November.

Some of our best readers competed against more than 40 other school teams at the Wellington Regional Kids' Lit Quiz this week, at Samuel Marsden Collegiate in Karori. Starting the day with some snow to get everyone excited, the 50 teams put their shared knowledge and memories to work, in a fine example of how the joy of reading can be so much fun.

Our two teams of amazing readers answered 100 questions on a wide range of subjects, including marriage, monkeys, mythology, rabbits, royalty, scientists, ships and the skin. There was a very high standard set, with the winning team from Tawa Intermediate scoring 95 points out of a possible 110, apparently one of the highest scores this year. One of the Queen Margaret College teams came second with 91.5 and Karori Normal with 90 won a play off for third place.

Our Rāroa A (for Awesome) team did really well, ending 7th with 84.5 points. They were Adelaide Busby, Kyra Saywell, Issy Acheson and James Mooney.

Our Rāroa B (for Brilliant) also did admirably, coming in at 13th of all the teams. They were Mya Woodfall,Hazel Maxwell, Julia Dudfield and Amrith Radnakrishnan.

Thank you to our wonderful students who represented their school so well. Thank you to their parents for creating such excellent readers. And to Mr Devine for helping get the teams there.
