Seeking Host Families for Short-stay Japanese Students

The Rāroan —

Rāroa Normal Intermediate is seeking expressions of interest from our school community for hosting students from a visiting Japanese school in July.

We're seeking Rāroa volunteer families to host Japanese exchange students for a stay of 12 days. We have a group of 20 students (boys and girls, aged between 15 & 17 years old) from a Japanese junior & senior high school visiting Rāroa Normal Intermediate in Term 3 for an immersive cultural experience. The aim of the visit is for these students to experience NZ culture and opportunities to practise English language in an authentic and meaningful context. It is also an opportunity for Rāroa students to learn more about Japanese traditions, language, and customs directly from their student buddies.

What to Expect:

  • Hosting Commitment: Hosting a Japanese exchange student for 12 days (Monday 22nd July to Saturday 3rd August) - families will receive a contribution towards the cost of hosting.

  • Support: From matching families & guests to providing guidance throughout the hosting period to ensure a smooth experience.

  • Memorable Moments: Providing hospitality/manaakitanga - Share meals, stories, and experiences with your guest. Explore Wellington/Te Whanganui-ā-Tara together and create lasting memories.
