Feedback from Digital use survey

The Raroan —

Thank you to those that completed the IT digital use survey. The Information provided will give us guidance for our future IT decision making. We appreciate all the views and comments made.

Of significance is the overwhelming support for putting in restrictions around using mobile phones at morning tea and lunch.

Framed by the statement:

“We would like students to be active and engaged in real life interactions at playtime and lunchtime.”

97% of those surveyed are supportive of restrictions around the use of devices at school.

Of those who completed the survey 95% have indicated that their child/children have a mobile phone or access to a mobile phone.

80% of those who completed the survey put in restrictions at home.

In light of this teachers will be requesting that students put their phones away at break time. We provide lockable storage which students can utilise or where necessary teachers will instruct students to lock them away.

We still believe that digital devices such as a phones can be a powerful learning tool which can increase engagement and access to learning tools.

Teachers will  monitor and restrict mobile use during class time, giving students access to their phone when required for learning purposes only, as stated in the student user agreement.

We will provide education and advice to students to learn and develop an understanding of how to effectively use digital devices so that they can have positive experiences and develop strategies when confronted with harmful communication in and beyond school. An initial short discussion presentation was introduced at assembly last Friday and is attached for your interest.

BYOD devices such as chromebooks and laptop are still encouraged. Students benefit from the use of this device and enable them access to an array of digital learning opportunities. The use of these devices can be monitored closely and utilize the schools filtering controls.
