The Rāroan —

Deputy Principal Matt Boucher has just published his 5th piece of writing for NZ children's publications.

Our own Deputy Principal and Science enthusiast, Matt Boucher, has been a regular contributor of science writing to the New Zealand School Journal and Connected publications. These journals are published each year and are sent to every school in New Zealand. His fifth piece has just been published in the School Journal Level 4, November 2022.

The article, 'How Vaccines Work', fits with this edition's theme of kaitiakitanga and how we can protect the things that we value and treasure. Vaccines are one important way for us to protect our communities and each other, and has been an important topic on students' minds in recent years through the Covid-19 pandemic. Matt believes that knowledge and understanding are key to conquering fear and helping students to be informed citizens in an ever-changing world. We have a duty, he says, to take complex topics and break them down for students so that they can understand important factors that affect their lives.

We are proud of Matt's mahi and look forward to using this resource, and the author himself, to teach students about important concepts in Science here at Rāroa Normal Intermediate School.
