Student Safety at School ...
As we head into the second half of the school year, there are important reminders for parents and caregivers, that are for the health and safety of all our students.
However, before these reminders, I would like to thank the majority of our parents & caregivers who do observe the safety measures we have in place, it is appreciated and makes our processes effective and efficient with student safety being our priority.
Student Absence
We have had children turn up to school and come directly to the office because they are and have been unwell overnight vomiting with tummy bugs and its follow on 24 hour effects. Tummy bugs can lead to diarrhoea and can become highly contagious, please use your best judgement and keep your sick child at home for at least the following day after night time tummy bugs.
With all absences please ring the school absence phone on 477 5333 as soon as you know your child is unable to attend school. Or you can phone the school office before 9.00am on any given day. We follow up all unexplained absences with a phone call &/or text to you.
We require explanations by phone to the office or their teacher, or in writing; if you email please do so, to both your student’s teacher & office@raroa.school.nz We are unable to accept a student’s unverified verbal account for an absence.
It is up to you to ensure this system is effective by notifying the school when your contact details change at anytime during the year.
This system works well most of the time. Occasionally a message does not reach the office – please be positive with staff when that happens.
On the school drive.
The school entrance before and after school becomes congested particularly when some parents choose to drive up to the office to drop off or collect their child.
If your child is able to walk unaided, we ask that you do not drive up the school driveway.
Instead, please use the alternative access from Raroa Park at the south entrance to the school. This allows you safe off-road stopping to drop off and pick up your child.
If you park inside the school grounds before school finishes please be aware that you may have to wait until all students have boarded their bus before you are able to drive out of the grounds.
During school hours if you need to drive up the drive please be aware that because students are always moving around, the school has a 5 km per hour speed limit in place, it is essential you drive slowly and with extreme care.
Please do not park in the bus bays at the front of the school.
