Instalaughs, Theatre Sport - it's all part of the fun @ Raroa

The Raroan —

The Raroa Instalaughs, our school’s advanced theatresports team, put on a secret show on Wednesday 6th July at lunchtime. Here’s a review of the show by an audience member, Eliza Williams.

When I first got to the secret Instalaughs show, I really didn't know what to expect. I had seen the Instalaughs perform last year at assembly, but this was the first secret show they had ever done. I thought it was pretty cool how they had refreshments and snacks like a proper show would have.

The theme of the show was ‘Nerds vs Jocks’ and it was a competition to see who would win The Instalaughs Trophy. They started off with a game of Story, Story, Die to see who would start in the competition. The jocks won the game, and then the competition began. The Jocks then the Nerds took turns to play an improv drama game each, then the crowd would decide who won that round.

Overall, one of my favourite games was the game that the Jocks played called the Slow Mo Olympics where the audience choose a boring everyday task and then they would have three of the Jocks racing to do that task. The other two Jocks were the announcers. The task was stacking a dishwasher, and it was really funny because, as the competitors raced to stack the dishwasher, they threw the imaginary dishes at each other to slow them down.

My favourite game that the Nerds performed would have to be Pillars, where they choose two members of the audience to come up on stage, and they were given a dictionary each. They were the pillars. Two of the Nerds acted out a scene, with the place that the scene would take place chosen by the audience. Then, at random points in the scene, they would tap one of the pillars, and the pillar would read out a sentence from their dictionary, and the Nerd would have the justify the sentence, and add it into the scene. I enjoyed watching the Nerds try and come up with ways to justify the crazy sentences that they were given. I know I could never do that!

I really enjoyed the secret Instalaughs show, and I really want to see another one in the future!
