The Rāroan —

It is hard to believe just how quickly 2023 has come to an end.

The return of ‘normality’ this year after a couple of quite disruptive years has amplified our successes in 2023 as well as highlighted the importance of connection and interaction as well as the importance of offering individuals the opportunities that enable them to thrive.

Our students have shone in the classroom and outdoors through a range of activities, musically through bands, orchestras, dance and song. Through sports competitions, cultural exchanges and events, academic pursuits, individually and as teams. They have topped tournaments and excelled on stage. We also celebrate individual achievements which are often unrecognised such as those that have integrated into a new country with no English, overcoming individual circumstances, and those with barriers that make learning a challenge. We are very proud of all our students.

Particular congratulations are extended to our Year 8 students who have grown in maturity and confidence and are ready to embrace the next chapter, full of new adventures and challenges.

I would like to extend my appreciation to our staff, students and the community for a positive and productive 2023 school year. Much has been achieved by many individuals and teams this year, and we will continue to find new ways to accomplish our vision of ASPIRE, with the focus on Aspire for all and how everyone can succeed at our Kura.

A great school requires many important components, the core element of these coming from its students, staff and community. I sincerely thank all those who supported Rāroa Normal Intermediate for everything that has been done to make Rāroa a wonderful place.

My very best wishes to everyone for a safe and restful holiday period.

Ngā mihi nui, Meri Kirihimete
