Johnsonville Rail Line Works – Easter

The Rāroan —

During the Easter long weekend, KiwiRail and its contractor John Holland will be working to complete the renewal of the overhead traction line equipment on the Johnsonville Line.

The works involve running new wire along the power poles from Fraser Avenue to the end of the line in Johnsonville. As part of this work, we are also replacing Raroa Bridge.

We will also be removing old masts. Some of this mast removal work will be noisy as it involves the use of chainsaws. We will be restricting the use of chainsaws to daytime hours only.

Schedule of works

The overhead line work will be carried out from 6am Friday 15 April to midnight on Monday 18 April. There will be no overnight work, though some work may extend into the late evening.

Likewise for the bridge replacement work, we will need to seal off the area from 6am Friday 15 April to midnight on Monday 18 April. During this time, we will need to set up a crane in the Raroa Station car park. This means the parking bays in front of the station won’t be available and access will be restricted.

The red and yellow lines on the map below illustrate alternative walking routes.
