Girls Hockey brings home Silver

The Raroan —

Congratulations & well done to our girls for the amazing day we had on Thursday June 14th for the WRISSA inter-intermediate Girls Hockey at the national hockey stadium, Newtown.

First up we played South Wellington Intermediate  and won 11-0. Next up we
played Avalon (10-0) and Newlands Intermediate (9-0). We had a tough fourth round game against Masterton and drew 0-all. Following that we won against Ferguson 10-0. Whilst we were tied with Masterton we won on goal difference which landed us in the final of the tournament against Tawa Intermediate.

With the Tawa exchange coming up Tuesday - there was a lot riding on hosts Raroa, to show Tawa what they were made of. The teams were equally matched, with speed, skill and tenacity. In the first half no goals were scored - although both sides had equal opportunity. Raroa fought back hard in the second half, but again both sides came out scoreless. It then came down to seven minutes extra time, in which the first goal that was scored, won the tournament. It wasn't until the forth minute, when Tawa swung a shot into goal. We had an amazing day, and coming second out of 12 teams is a huge achievement.

A huge thank you to parents and staff for their support.
