Rms 10, 11 & 12 at Camp Makahika!!

Tyler N and Amelie N (Room 11) —

Camp: fun, outdoor time away from technology that pushes you out of your comfort zone.

That might sound awful to some of you but camp is actually really fun! Not just because of the activities but because it's a chance to reconnect with nature and get to know your peers and teachers better.

Rooms 10, 11 and 12 went to camp in Week 11 of Term 1. For the activities we got to go into the bush for a day and learn survival skills - like learning to light a fire and learning how to make a fort, You also get to cross a river so make sure to bring some closed shoes that will take the water.

Since camp is three days long you also got a full day at base camp where we got to do some fun and challenging activities, including a high ropes course, a low ropes course and a zipline. Oh and we can't forget about the ‘Swingbridge of Dreams’, stretching high across the river on the way to the zipline. On the last day of camp we got to do a high energy orienteering adventure racing for some friendly competition. We won’t spoil it for you but it was great, and our step-count got very high.

Don’t expect really fancy food at camp, but tasty meals that will energise you throughout the days. Remember to bring some baked goods for everyone for morning and afternoon tea, because those treats were so good when we were so exhausted..

After dinner, everyone got ready for the night games, Our classes played “Escape the Castle’ and a flashing-light code game organised by Mrs Temple.

To keep us safe, teach new things and give us new nicknames, our instructors were Allan (who taught on the bush day), Taylor (who taught ran the zipline), Charlie (who ran the low-ropes course) and Eta (who pushed us out of our comfort zones on the high-ropes course).

Finally, we wanted to give a big thank you to all the teachers and parent helpers who took us on this amazing adventure and made sure we had a great time.
