WRISSA ~ Basketball

The Rāroan —

A quadrangular basketball tournament was held in the last week of term 3 - Thursday 24 September

Rāroa Breakers

What a day!

Some tough games of basketball today with a hard first up loss to Maidstone 34-24. We lost our defensive structure and Maidstone made us pay. We came back with a tough win against Tawa 24-23 which we should've won a bit more convincingly. Last in the pool play was a game against Naenae. We struggled on defense again but our attack kept us in the game. A thrilling finish with a basket and a foul on the final whistle, which we thought was sending us to overtime but unfortunately the tournament rules weren't in our favor with us going down 32-31. We finished 3 points off making the final which was hard for the boys to take. Our last game of the day was for 3rd and 4th and we drew Naenae again. A chance for redemption! I'm super proud of the boys for keeping their heads high and finding our usual game to take it out 34-31. Some good lessons learnt along the way.

Great effort from the girls today. Results didn’t go our way but the girls didn’t give up. A close loss to Maidstone first up and a very close loss with Naenae 22-18 but Tawa ran away with it at the end.

Outstanding skills and display shown from point guards Laney, Abbie and Iona, taking the ball from end to end. Forwards Ava, Phoebe and Olivia stayed strong in the defence keeping attackers out of the circle. Rylee, Kasey and Effie showed awesome impact off the bench getting straight into the action.

Overall the girls enjoyed the day and as a team there was a lot of communication on how we should play the game, which was impressive to see.
