Scots College Basketball Invitational Tournament

The Rāroan —

On Sunday 28th June, Rāroa 1st Division basketball side was invited to participate in a Scots College Invitational Basketball tournament at ASB Sports Centre.

The tournament was run by Kenny McFadden, Steven Adams, trainer and college coach. The talent on display at this event was sensational and our boys were among the most talented and skilful players.

Our boys eased through the pool stage with convincing wins, lead by captain Kael Kincaid.  Kael was impressive with his leadership and on-ball efforts to lead the team in scoring, rebounds and blocks. All players contributed with starters Orlando Hawkins, Jordi Sutton, Rangitihi Te Tau and Daniel Hawkesby being lethal in scoring and assists. James Wright, Jesiah Moon, Rupert Hewett and Alfie Downing proved crucial and valued team members for their efforts off the bench.

They made big-time plays in some intense moments. The collaborative effort was made evident when Rāroa clinched the victory in the final against Hataitai.

Our coach Mr Berthelsen said, "the boys were clutch today, they played for each other, represented their Kura with pride and they deserved the title."  Overall, it was a fantastic day and hopefully Rāroa Division One basketball side can continue their success in the upcoming Tawa Exchange.
