WRISSA Baseball 2022

The Rāroan —

On Tuesday 25th October, Rāroa sent a team to the WRISSA Baseball tournament at Fraser Park. It was a fantastic day and the students had a lot of fun.

This is only the 2nd year we have had a team in the tournament and in 2021, we were runner ups. The team was made up of many of our cricketers as well as a few students who play baseball for teams in the Wellington region.

We started with a bye, followed by a game against Wainuiomata 2, which we came out on top. The following game was against last years champions, Masterton and in a tight fought game Rāroa came out on top. This put us top of our pool and into the semi finals.

In the first semifinal vs Hutt Intermediate, we started a little shaky, but then hit our straps. With some excellent hitting, especially by Nikhil, we came out strong in the 2nd and 3rd innings, comfortably taking the game.

This setup a final between Rāroa and Masterton (who won their semifinal). We proved again how strong we were in the hitting department and with some excellent pitching from Jake and Emmet, we coasted to a well deserved victory taking out the tournament as champions for 2022.

Well done to the team of:

Ewan McGarry, Thomas Hunter, Leo Bridgman, Nikhil Ranchord, Jett Allan, Emmet McMahon, Thomas Wilkinson, Zach Graham, Eddy Pope, Jake Charity, Zion Berwick

Everyone contributed and played their part.
