The Raroan —

The shortest term of the year (by one week) comes to an end.

Term three has been a busy and exciting term.

This term saw the completion of the DPE hub, renovation to some DPE rooms and upgrades to Block three classrooms. It  is great to have these spaces back in use and to see the exciting new space that has been created around the DPE rooms. Some work replacing beams and spouting is currently being completed for block three.

Our hall roof temporary repair was completed and the hall was back in action early term three. The loss of the use of the hall at the same time as some classrooms being renovated had quite an impact and I thank all the students and staff for working around and coping with this.

Learning has been focussed and often with an authentic outcome such as helping someone in our community or presenting to our parents. Trips outside the classrooms were varied and enriched the classroom learning.

Science Fair, Mathswell and Tournament of Minds also took place during term three. Three students won prizes in the Science Fair. Our Tournament of Minds teams competed in the Wellington competition last weekend with one team winning their event and will be competing in the national competition next weekend.

Sports events have been many this term with Inter-Intermediate competitions , the Wellington sports fest and the NZ AIMS games. The Wellington sports fest is a great opportunity to involve many students in such a sporting event - many representing Raroa for the first time. Two teams went to the NZ AIMS games in Tauranga - cross country and girls football and they came back with two gold medals, a silver and a bronze.

More detailed articles about these events and competitions can be found in past newsletters as well as this one.

Next week is the last week of term three finishing at the usual time on Friday 23 September.

Term four begins Monday 10 October.
