Whakaute Science Fair
In the Whakaute science fair, we were challenged to think like a scientist and create a science board.
Starting with three main types of science - chemistry, physics and the living world. Then we met three different scientists from Victoria University. After we chose which kind of science to do, we went to the corresponding classroom. Once there we started with planning what our question was going to be. (For some extra challenge, our question had to have purpose. Why are you asking this question? Why does it help? And so on.)
When we chose our question, we began researching it. For example, we would search up what certain liquids would do to a coin and whether it would be dangerous before writing our hypothesis and our method.
Now the fun part begins: Testing our experiment. During the testing we would record all of the information before putting it all into writing, and graphs. We began printing the information that we gathered, before adding a border and blu-tacking them to a tri-fold board. Now we were ready for the science fair.
Some people took up the role of introducing the parents who came to the science fair. Then the parents were free to go anywhere they wanted to, and look at the other experiments. They were all in neat rows around Room 22 with some in the wet space of room 21. Eventually the fair ended and we packed up our trifolds. This was a really fun thing to do and we would like to do it again.
