Raroa at Wellington Chess Tournament

The Raroan —

Eight chess masters from Raroa took on other Wellington Intermediates at the NZ Chess Federation School's Tournament at Hutt International Boys School last week.

Thanks and congratulations to the students who represented us so well: Adam Rogers, Trijal Pednekar, Mitchell Su, Blake Chambers, Daniel Roscoe, Toby Shannon, Tom Jacobsen and Arham Jain.

The two teams showed both ability and great sportsmanship.  Both teams were near the top of the table for most of the day.

After 4 of the 6 rounds, they were 3rd and 4th on the table which meant they were then matched against strong opposition.

The results table for the top 10 was very tight and, at the end of the competition, Raroa A placed 5th and Raroa B placed 7th.

Huge thanks to parent Ian Shannon for transport and spending the day with the students, and also to Adesh Pednekar for the return transport.
Adam, Blake, Toby and Mitchell also represented the school the following day at the Tawa Exchange where, after many games, they were announced as the winning team.
