Tournament of the Minds
Last Saturday, 21 Raroan students took part in the Wellington Regional Tournament of Minds, along with 67 other teams.
They presented a 10 minute dramatic response to the judges, and an audience, to show which character from history could be deleted and why. But the teams faced many challenges on the way to this presentation, including:
working in teams of 7 - even adults find this challenging!
only allowed 6 weeks to prepare
NO teacher, parent, student, adult help or advice...if fact, no help from ANYONE!
only allowed to use recyclable materials and only to the value of $75 (costed as if they were new)
a written script had to be presented as well
In addition, they also faced a Spontaneous Challenge which they had to respond to, on the spot, in 4 mins, in front of the judges. Although none of Raroa’s teams were one of the four winning teams to go to the National Tournament, each team demonstrated outstanding teamwork, problem-solving, risk-taking and creative thinking; and they also loved doing these challenges without adults or friends! Well done to all of you!
