Intermediate Rocks!

Dylan Contin —

On the 16th of October, the Raroa Bands participated in ‘Intermediate Rocks’ at Maidstone Intermediate. It was an opportunity for schools across the Wellington region to showcase the songs they had been working on during the year.

It was a great experience to see how different schools embraced the opportunity, with a wide range of different genres and instruments being played each set. Throughout the day, the staff members of Maidstone judged all the bands for many different awards, and Raroa did exceptionally well.

  • Destroyers of Silence, won the award called ‘Most Interesting Instrument’

for their work with the Bagpipes.

  • Destroyers of Silence also won the ‘Best Vocal Solo’, awarded for an amazing performance from their Singer.

  • Detention Jam won the ‘Most Challenging Piece’ award for a technical performance from the entire band.

  • And finally the Destroyers of Silence Guitarist won the ‘Best Instrument Solo’ for a daring Guitar and Bagpipe exchange.

Intermediate Rocks was a great chance to perform, and I hope that next year's bands can find the same success and experiences.
