WRISSA Boys Basketball

Jordan Price —

It was a sensational day out to start the WRISSA events off for Term 2. The boys rallied from the early setback of Mr Boekhorst to have a wonderful day.

They started strong vs Masterton, claiming a comfortable victory based on great team play and very tight defence. Kahu and Khang starring, to ensure Masterton weren't able to get rebounds at either end. The boys followed it up with another win, a tight tussle which saw Kieran take control early before Joe and Nadeem kept the opposition at bay. With the 2 wins, we had qualified for the quarters but played Hutt to round out the pool play. Jacob, Cam and James combining for our best player of the day.

The quarters were now upon us and the Rāroa Kaipare lifted to play their best game of the day. Taane was having a blinder dominating the paint and Nolan got hot sinking buckets. The boys pushed and pushed against the defending champs and pulled up just short in an epic quarter final. EBIS went on to finish second and Rāroa played off against Naenae for a place in the 5th/6th final. Despite a strong start by Kieran, Nolan and Taane, Naenae pulled away.

The boys were incredible all day, working better than most as a team and picking each up when they were down. A great example of how to represent Rāroa.
