Team 1 Gets Political with an Election

The Raroan —

Over the past few weeks, Team One has been busy preparing for an election. It started with a trip to parliament to learn about politics and the way elections happen.

Afterwards, we were placed in 'parties', and our first job was to come up with policies we would like to have enforced in the school. Subsequently, we chose a party name, logo, slogan, and applied for our positions. Following on, we had a lot of campaigning to do. With billboards to make, posters to design, pamphlets to hand out, and rosettes to create, whilst also writing a speech for our candidates. Finally the day came. Last Friday each candidate presented their speeches to the rest of the team, and everybody cast their votes. On the following Wednesday evening, our parents came along to listen to the winning speech from each class. The Mayor; Justin Lester also came, and supported us too. In addition, we used this time to share some learning from throughout the year.

Once the votes were counted, the winner was announced. Congratulations to Jared Kondia, Sarah Jennings, Laura Stone, Ruby Gane, Johnny Lewis, Campbell Roach and Daniel Dar of Independent Future who became the overall winners!
