Best Saturday Entertainment

Maureen Phillips —

Our netball teams turned it on last week at Saxton Courts and had great success.

Three very exciting games at Saxton Netball Courts last Saturday gripped the spectators as the Saint Paul's battled for the top placing in their grade.   Saint Paul’s Synergy won the Junior Grade 4 final convincingly, they looked very sharp the entire game taking home the Trophy for St Paul’s. Congratulations to Nik Palmer and daughters for their wonderful Coaching all season.

Saint Paul’s Panthers worked really hard in the Grade 5 final and displayed some great skills on the court but were beaten by Saint Joseph’s in the end, it was a great effort just to be in the final. Well done to Philippa Hood for doing an awesome job in Coaching the team.

Saint Paul’s All Stars 8A won convincingly against BIS 8A in the Junior Grade 1 Final 45 to 24. It is the first time in the history of the school that a Saint Paul’s team has been in the Junior Grade 1 final and the team is very proud to now have the Saint Paul’s School name engraved on the respected Trophy forever.  A huge thank you to Monique Bergman for five years of coaching that saw this team play such an exciting game and with such skill.

A very big congratulations to Kimberly Curry who won the “Most Promising U13 Player, on and off court” Trophy. This is a huge award and achievement to win the prestigious trophy in a pool of very talented players, it is a very well deserved accomplishment.

After the Saint Paul’s All Stars 8A team won the J1 Final, they were then invited to play for the Sue Dahlberg Trophy in the precursor game to the Premier Netball Final against WIS 8A. The game was very close for the entire four quarters with the first quarter at 8 all and WIS just beating the girls in the end to win by 4 goals. There were some tired legs on court by the end but the girls worked hard and gave it all they had against a very tough team who won the College Grade 2 Final.

There are 48 Intermediate netball teams in the competition and considering the size of our school, it has been a really successful season for Saint Paul’s school to have all three Intermediate teams in the Finals.
