Big Ski Week for the 2019 Saint Paul's Ski Team at Rainbow.

Margaret Oliver —

The Solander Primary School Champs where held last Wednesday with teams from Tasman, Nelson & Marlborough, being the biggest inter school ski race in NZ. Big congratulations to Coco-Bella Monopoli, Bruno Scragg, Holly Oliver & Amy Oliver for winning Senior Girls team and bringing the trophy to Saint Paul's for the first time!

Coco Bella who’s only in Year 4, stepped up so we could make a senior girls team. She looked so small among all the Year 7 and 8 students waiting to have their race down the course, but what she lacked in height she made up for in speed. Coco was placed 44th girl and 85th overall out of 112 racers. This is awesome. It will be exciting to see what Coco could achieve against her peers.

Bruno a Year 7 student was also in the team, (1 boy can be in a girls team). He has got the ski bug and is loving it. The improvement we have seen in his skiing over the last couple of months is amazing considering he has never had a formal lesson. He placed 17th boy and 30th overall. Something to be proud of!

Holly also in Year 7 was placed 5th girl and 8th overall. She was the 1st Year 7 student and did well considering she had to repeat her first run due to a glitch in the timer. This can easily get you into a bad head space but Holly rocked it.

Amy had her last year racing for Saint Paul's School this year. She not only placed 2nd girl but was 2nd overall. She has taken big leaps in her skiing confidence and ability this year and I know the Garin College ski team is looking forward to having her on their team in 2020.

All of our team also competed individually in the Club Champs on Saturday.

Holly placed 2nd for her age (11-12yrs) in Slalom and GS, and 1st overall, adding her name to the trophy under her sisters.

Amy was buzzing from putting into practice cross blocking which she learnt on Thursday. As a result she has gained bruises on her legs. Amy placed 2nd for her age in both Slalom and GS, and was 6th overall female.

Bruno had his first time racing on a slalom course and Coco had some tough competition in her age group.

A fun day had by all!
