Through the united efforts of teachers, parents and friends of our school, opportunities are available for the students to participate in a variety of sports.
We have a sports coordinator, Natalie Allam who can be contacted at natalie.allam@stpauls-richmond.school.nz to organise participation. A very high percentage of children play at least one sport in the weekend in both summer and winter competitions. At the beginning of each term, registrations are open for the available sports that term. Parents are emailed registration forms to fill out for their child.
Lunchtime Leagues
We encourage lunchtime leagues during the term; these are supported by school staff, but where possible run by the students themselves. Should students have any idea on lunchtime leagues please contact their teacher.
School Events We endeavour to provide a variety of sporting events throughout the year whereby the students can put into action skills taught through PE lessons. These include swimming sports, cross-country and athletics. Parents, caregivers and friends are always welcome to support such events.
Inter School Competitions Where possible our students participate in inter-school competitions. The Year 7 and 8 students are represented at the Intermediate competitions. The Year 4, 5 and 6 students participate in Primary competitions. Swimming Since 2005 all our students work through a swimming programme supported by the professional swimming instructors at the ASB Aquatic Centre in Richmond. In Term 1, we walk down to the Aquatic Centre for 5 lessons and then the same again in Term 4.
Volleyball We encourage the students in Year 3,4,5, 6, 7 and 8 to join the school volleyball team. Games are played at Saxton Stadium on a Monday or a Wednesday. Our local Volleyball Development Officer at Tasman Volleyball comes into the school each year to assist us with our Volleyball Skills.
Kiwi Cricket Cricket is played on a Saturday morning down at Saxton Fields. Many of our children play in the kiwi cricket and incredible grades which is skill based leaning in groups before moving onto playing the game as their develop and gain more skills.
Netball Students from Years 1-8 are able to play Netball in the Future Ferns grades. Years 1-6 Future Ferns are skill based and played during the week after school and the year 7/8 competition is played on a Saturday morning.

To participate in Kiwi hoops, registration is done directly with Nelson Basketball. Games are played at either Jack Robins Stadium in Stoke or at Nayland College.

Mini Football Is a great introduction to playing football. This 5-a-side game takes place during the summer terms 1 and 4 at Saxton Soccer grounds. It is a great introduction to football or a wonderful way to keep up football skills during the winter months.

We are also able to link students to a variety of individual sports such as golf, table tennis and tennis. Please contact natalie.allam@stpauls-richmond.school.nz if you have any questions.
