God sees the heart.

Maureen Phillips —

The Gospel this Sunday shares the story of the poor widow who gave her last coins during a gathering at the Temple. Her giving was one of great sacrifice and love.

As members of our Catholic community, we recognise our Christian duty to notice and care for those around us who are in need of our love and support. Jesus himself taught us to love our neighbor as ourselves and this includes those who are often overlooked or excluded.

At Hato Pāora (Saint Paul's) we encourage our ākonga (students) to recognise the importance of valuing and respecting all members of our school and wider community, regardless of background or circumstances. This means being inclusive, compassionate and actively seeking out opportunities to serve those in need.

Let us remember the words of Saint Mother Teresa: "If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one." Every act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a difference in the life of another.
