The Boyd Incident!

Claudia Green —

Hoiho have taken a trip back in time to the 1800s to learn about one of Aotearoa's fascinating historic events, The Boyd Incident.

In Hoiho, we have been fostering our curious nature to research the historic events that occurred in Whangaroa Harbour, Aotearoa in 1809. We have been developing questioning and research skills to discover, process and present information.

We showcased our art and literacy skills, choosing either a storyboard or newspaper article from the 1800s to retell the main events of the Boyd Incident. We had fun tea staining our published copies and exploring techniques to present our knowledge as though it was from the 1800s.

This flowed on appropriately from our Treaty of Waitangi inquiry at the beginning of the term. We have explored our own identity and whakapapa to create our pepeha art, with the guidance of Mrs Marfell. They look beautiful!
