Holy Week
This Sunday is Palm Sunday, the final Sunday of Lent and the beginning of Holy Week.
Holy means “set apart.” As Christians we set apart an entire week, Holy Week, to recall the events surrounding the suffering, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus. Within Holy Week we celebrate Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday.
As you move through Holy Week there are many activities that you can participate in with your children that will make the week special. For example, you might set aside an evening to read a version of the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ Passion and Death written for children.
You may have Easter and Holy Week traditions from your ethnic heritage, that you could introduce to your children. It can be fun to decorate eggs—symbols of the Resurrection—or put together Easter baskets. The story of Jesus’ suffering and Death are at the heart of Christian faith. At school we have celebrated the Holy Week rituals with the children. I am sure that they will enjoy sharing their understanding with you next week. Blessings for you and your family for Holy Week.
