Lily Leadbetter

This is an important note to let you know about the health of a child that will be attending school with your child.Lily Leadbetter is on immunosuppressant medication which she takes due to a heart transplant.

Because of these medications, Lily cannot fight illnesses as well as a child with a healthy immune system. In addition, certain illnesses pose a huge risk to Lily’s well-being and could be life threatening. At the very least, it might mean hospitalization.

Because of this, our school will teach and practice good handwashing skills as well as focusing on applying hygiene etiquettes, such as covering your mouth and nose when sneezing. Please follow the school illness policy and keep sick children at home, especially in the beginning stages of an illness and especially while there is fever, diarrhoea or vomiting. Also, it is critical that you report to the teacher if your child has come down with any of the following: chicken pox, flu virus, Epstein Barr (“mono”), croup, hand foot and mouth disease, whooping cough, strep throat, measles, mumps, rubella and COVID-19. Lily should also avoid contact with people who are affected by cystic fibrosis.

Lily is a typical 8-year-old in every other way and is enjoying and thriving in the school environment. Lily’s parents Veronika and Adam are happy to answer any questions. Here is Lily’s Facebook page: A new heart for Lily – ein neues Herz fuer Lily and a link to her blog: www.littleblip.wordpress.com. These pages are informative and give an insight into Lily’s life and medical journey. Thank you for your support and understanding. Hopefully all of our efforts will mean a healthier year for all of us!
