Today, we celebrate the very special legacy of Selwyn House School alumna Aoife Platts.

Aoife has a treasured Selwyn House School family tradition. Her grandmother was a student here in the 1930s, and Aoife continues to carry on the special connection in her current role as Year 6 teacher.

Why was Selwyn House School so important in your life?

"Selwyn House School has always played an important part in my life. My grandmother was a previous pupil here, so I've always felt very proud to have that family connection to the school. Even though I was only here as a student for two years (Years 7 & 8), they are some of my happiest and most memorable years of school."

What difference did the foundation you gained at Selwyn House School contribute to your future success?

"Coming from a public primary school, Selwyn House School felt entirely different because of its exciting specialist timetable - every lesson was genuinely engaging and interesting. It opened my eyes to so many new opportunities and ways of thinking. It also taught me key self-management skills during my formative years, which completely prepared me for high school. Thanks to that foundation, I was able to manage a busy rowing schedule alongside all of my school commitments."

What was your favourite area of learning?

"I always loved PE or doing any sport. I also have memories of some fun (and at times, gruesome) dissections of animal parts in science."

What was your favourite learning experience outside the classroom?

"Even though I'm not a 'performer' as such, I loved being a part of the production 'Annie'. I had never been a part of anything like that, and haven't really been since, so I'll remember that for a long time I think!"

What was special about your Years 7 & 8?

"I was only here for Years 7 and 8 and I loved it so much, I had to return as a teacher!"

A teacher (or two) you remember:

"Definitely Mr Pearce! He took me for Performing Arts back then, so it is quite fun now being colleagues!"
