Stallions start with a 'trot' but finish with a 'gallop'

Lee Padmore —

5-1 down to 6-5 up to finish 6-6. The Stallions have arrived in the MPL with a bang!

The Selwyn United 'Stallions' showed for the second week in a row they are a force to be reckoned with in the MPL... at least from an attacking perspective.

After 40 minutes, fans were being left with a sour taste in their mouth and a realisation that the big league may be a bigger step up than most thought. Selwyn United were 5-1 down to the reigning MPL Champions Ferrymead Bays and were looking down and out. Jamie Carrodus then slotted a penalty just before half time but not even the most die-hard Selwyn United fan could have predicted what would happen next.

The Stallions came out in the second half reinvigorated, energetic and whatever was said at half time certainly resonated with the young team as they took the game to Ferrymead Bays who had no answer for 40 minutes of explosive football.

An own goal on 62 minutes, and goals from Aidan Barbour-Ryan, Hamiora Davey Brown & Daniel Ede looked to have sealed a 6-5 win that was unimaginable at half time before Ferrymead Bays snuck what was, in all honesty, a deserved equaliser in the 92nd minute.

The Stallions can certainly take belief from their opening fixtures against two of the top three teams in the competition and if they can tighten up defensively, who knows where this season could progress to!

The Stallions have a double header this weekend, away to FC Twenty 11 on Friday @ Avonhead Park, 2.45pm KO. They then face Nelson Suburbs @ Foster Park on Monday, 1.30pm KO.

Get yourselves down to both games, you never know what you might see!
