Introducing the Community Development Committee

Darren Sudlow - September 16, 2018

An introduction to each of the four members of our new committee.

Over the  off season we have some development taking place at SUFC. A new Director of Football role entirely focused on our high-performance pathway and an anticipated Community Development Officer to lead our participation space (more on that at a later date). We have also formed a Community Development Committee who will work with the latter role to ensure a quality experience for all players. Volunteers make a difference in an amateur sports club so it is fantastic to have some new (and old) people put their hand up to get involved.

We have room for more so if this is something you would like to get involved with then please email pres@sufc.nz

Introducing...

Julie Gray

My association with SUFC began with my first son playing fun kicks in 2012.

I played football throughout my school years moving on to club football playing for Avonhead then Halswell United. Through the week I manage a busy suburban veterinary centre. I am looking forward to becoming more involved with the club through this committee.

Tracey Jack

My name is Tracey and I have joined the committee in order to help improve the playing experience for all SUFC members. I have two sons that play for the club in the junior and youth grades, the only prior experience I have playing football is getting beaten in the traditional kids vs parents end of season matches. While I can't help with the coaching and refereeing I plan to contribute to the club by being on the committee. I encourage others to volunteer a couple of hours per season to help out if they feel being on the committee is too much of a time commitment.

Leanne Jones

Kia ora my name is Leanne Jones. My husband, Stephen and I are self-employed in a small engineering business. We have two sons Hamish and Lachie and have all played social level football, although my playing with Selwyn was limited to one winter season and is now just playing in the summer 5 aside. As a family we love football and have remained heavily involved with coaching, managing and even refereeing throughout the years.

I wish to be part of this Committee because I am passionate about everyone who plays football at all levels. Being part of this committee for me means that hopefully, I can help ensure all coaches, managers and players in the social grade teams have a great experience. I believe without social grade football there will be no base to build the club on. Social grade footballers are often clubs future coaches, managers, committee members and supporters. Social grade football I believe is and should be the clubs mana.

Vince Binding

My life priorities are Family; Work and then Football. Some would argue this priority list as I have an intense passion for Football. Throughout the last 45 years I have played up to NZ Representative level; Refereed up to National League level; coached up to National Representative level, I have been an administrator, manager, supporter and helper. I love the game! But for me football isn’t about the top level all the time, for me it is about sharing my love of the game with everyone who wants to play. For this reason I have volunteered to join Selwyn United Football Club’s new initiative the Community & Development Football Committee. Hopefully with some like minded people we can share, and grow the game at all levels; providing support, guidance, education and coaching so everyone enjoys the game as much as I do! I look forward to seeing you around Foster Park.
