Season Preview: Selwyn Masters (Over 45s)
The Selwyn Masters O45 held our annual preseason team meeting at our local watering hole the Pedal Pusher in Faringdon and decided after a successful 1st year we would re-enter a team into the O45 League this season.
As we had lost 6 players to either retirement or another club, we hit the road early in January looking for new players to bolster our squad.
We welcome Kelly Mountford, Tony Harrison, Arran Jack, Alex, Diaz, Carl Colenutt, Richard Silverwood and James Milne to O45.
We started our preseason kickabouts in February (to be fair we do not stop) building up our elite fitness and ensuring that we hit the start of the new season prepared and well organized.
Friendlies were arranged and the results from these have been promising.
Played 5....won 3 and drew 2.....with twelve goals scored and only 1 against. Our league consists of 10 Teams (4 from FC Twenty) and our home pitch will be Brookside Park just as well we are accustomed to the ongoing Easterly.
We welcome back club stalwarts of Rob Carlisle & Greg Stenhouse, who join Arran Jack, Richard Silverwood & Tony Harrison in defence, our Centre Forward combination of Justin Rivard, Alex Diaz & Robin Lopez will be looking to torment any defenders in our league.
The "work horses" down the flanks should never be forgotten or underestimated and here we have Jason Brotherway, Steve "Chopper" Reid, Coen Lammers and Shane Potter.
Our midfield "fatties" of Dave Warner, James Milne, Carl Colenutt and Arran Hunter will be up for the challenge in every game.
A report would not be complete without mentioning the ever-safe hands of Kelly Mountford in goal.
We look forward to our 2nd season in O45.....our team ethos has always been that we play together with the common goal to win, challenge ourselves but more importantly above all.......that we enjoy playing football with our mates for a great club like Selwyn Utd.
