Free insulation

Community Energy Action —

In the Budget 2020 subsidies for insulation were raised and charity Community Energy Action is topping those up to offer FREE insulation to eligible customers.

This year more than any other year it is vital for people to stay healthy and out of hospital. A warm house has proven to be an important factor for older people to stay healthy. Canterbury organisation Community Energy Action Charitable Trust (CEA) together with the CDHB have done research that has shown that older people living in warm homes that are well insulated and well heated are healthier than those that live in a cold uninsulated home.

In the Budget 2020 subsidies for insulation were raised and charity Community Energy Action is topping those up to offer FREE insulation to eligible customers.

Who is eligible?

All owner-occupiers (no rentals) with a Community Services Card (CSC) OR owner-occupiers living at a qualifying address, qualify for FREE insulation provided the house was built before 2008. Top-ups of (subsidised) insulation installed before 2008 also qualify. Many Gold Cards double up as a CSC. If the number on the back of the Gold Card is followed by “…/CSC” the gold card is also a Community Services Card. To find out whether an address qualifies please contact CEA. There are qualifying address in every suburb/town.

Funding available

CEA has heaps of funding available for low income households. Two nights in hospital is likely to be dearer than the subsidy to insulate a house. The government wants all households to be warm affordably rather than treating people in hospital for a cold-related illness!

Raising awareness

CEA is encouraging all organisations with low income customers who own their own home, to make them aware of this opportunity.

Go online and register today for a free insulation assessment.

Registering for the free insulation is easy. Fill in CEA’s online form for a free no-obligation assessment. CEA’s energy assessor will look at the insulation present (if any) and will confirm whether the customer qualifies for the subsidy. Customers can also call us on (03) 374 7222 or 0800 GETWARM to register or for more information and CEA encourages any support people to make initial enquiries on behalf of their clients. CEA works all over Canterbury from Kaikoura to Ashburton and in the West Coast. For more information visit their website HERE
