2023 Auckland Snowsports Championships

Andrew Smart —

Sherwood's Snowsports team showcases their style on the slopes and takes Bronze in the Primary School Boys Snowboard section.

The 2023 Auckland Primary & Intermediate Schools Snowsports Championships took place on Tuesday 1st August at Snowplanet. This will be the second time in recent history that Sherwood students competed in the event.

The event consists of two sections. Ski/Snowboard Race and Ski/Snowboard Jam Session. For the race section, athletes attempt to navigate past the flags and get to the bottom as quickly as they can. For the Jam session, athletes go through the park section with jumps and rails and show the judges what they've got.

This year we had a team of 9 students from across Years 3 to 6 (7 skiers and 2 snowboarders). A few veterans from last year and some new faces. The day kicked off with students doing a couple practice runs finding their groove followed by the competition rounds.

Our team put in a fantastic effort in the race section, giving it all they had. However, it was the Jam session where our students really showed what they were capable of. The style and confidence they hit the jumps combined with a buttery slide on the rails was X Games worthy and they certainly deserved the medals they won! Congratulations to all our athletes of the 2023 Snowsports Team!
