Principal's Corner

Carolyn Crow —

Our Sherwood students have had a very successful term so far, participating in a range of activities both in and out of school.

We are always so proud of the teams that head off to take part in various competitions. They not only enjoy the events, but represent the school positively.  We get so many positive comments about their commitment, enthusiasm and good sportsmanship. You can read about some of the teams who took part in recent sporting events in this newsletter.

I was lucky enough to see a school team compete in a different kind of event last weekend. The Tournament of Minds is a competition where teams have to work completely independently with no adult assistance to prepare and present a solution to a complex challenge in a creative way. I was able to take time away from judging in another category to watch our team perform. They did a fabulous job and showed a keen sense of humour in their performance. The team is pictured above.

Two teams have begun training for another competition to be held early next term. It's called the E-Pro8 challenge, and sees teams compete in solving technology problems. And we have two teams preparing for the Sustainability Challenge in November.

So much learning takes place in these primary years that is outside of the actual curriculum. Having the experience of competition is one of those kinds of learning that will stand our students in good stead for the future. Not only do they gain huge satisfaction from taking part in competitions (win or lose), they also have fun!

Thank you to all the parents and families who support them in these activities. Without you, they wouldn't be possible.

Nga mihi
