Kauri Team Reminders

Carolyn Crow —

Clothing:

Please make sure all of your child’s clothing is clearly named, especially their hat, jumper/sweatshirt. There are boxes of lost property in the school foyer if a lost item doesn’t turn up immediately in the Kauri area.

Water bottles:

Please make sure your child has a named water-bottle at school. We request filling this with water rather than juice as we promote healthy eating and drinking at school. Juice also encourages ants.

Lunchboxes:

Please ensure your child has a healthy lunch as this aids their focus in class. Please keep sugar based items for after school. Due to allergies, we do not encourage the sharing of food.

Helping your child at home:

Reading

Please encourage your child to read every night. They can read a book from school or home/library. Please ensure your child brings their book bag (containing the Literacy folder, library book and class reading book) to school every day.  Towards the end of each week, your child will bring home the BSLA book which they have been working on at school. There are activities in the back of each book and in the whānau letter to help support their learning. If you would like more regular books, your child’s class teacher will have a browsing box of books for your child to choose from each day. These are from the previous ‘Colour Wheel’ system and will not have been read in class.

Spelling

Please remember to encourage your child to use StepsWeb at home. Read more about StepsWeb here. Your child will have been given their login details. If you need help, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Kauri U class will be given their details in due course.

Maths

Please help your child to recognise numbers and practise their addition and subtraction basic facts to 10, 20 and beyond. The digital programme ‘Skoolbo’ has a section which helps with maths. Your child will have been given their login details. If you need help, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Kauri U class will be given their details in due course.
