Beginning of the Māori New Year

The predawn rising of Matariki in the mid-winter sky marks the changing of the seasons and the beginning of the Māori New Year.

This year our Oneroa Kāhui Ako celebrates Matariki on Thursday 23 June, with a Matariki Festival held at Long Bay College. 

Our Kapa Haka group will be performing along with other schools within our community of learning.

Our kura will also be celebrating Matariki throughout the week of June 20 to June 23 with a variety of learning and celebration activities.

Friday 24 June will be the first public holiday for Matariki.
