Principal's Corner Week 3

Carolyn Crow —

Kia ora koutou. As I write this, the term's learning and activities are in full swing.

You will see from all the articles in this newsletter that it's a very busy time.

In addition, there's lots of physical change happening around the school with relocatable classrooms going, and demolition of another group of classrooms. We must do a "shout out" to our Property Manager, Bill Allaker who does an amazing job in co-ordinating all of this work alongside what is already a very busy role.

Once the grounds are reinstated to how they were before the building project began, we are able to consider possibilities for new structures and landscaping. Last week a group of staff and parents had an informal meeting to generate ideas to make our physical environment both more attractive and interesting. One example is our newly finished sandpit. The children are really enjoying the alternative type of play that it makes possible. We are grateful to SPA for their significant contribution to this project. Other ideas which are being investigated are a fitness trail, a native tree grove, a car track (for toy cars), a bike track, outdoor artworks, and an unstructured play area. And the Enviro team have exciting plans for the garden area too. If anyone in our community has other ideas, we'd love to hear them. Bit by bit, we will keep working to make our lovely school even better.

In this newsletter, you will see that today we gave recognition to our fabulous support staff who make a positive difference to the education of your children.  We are very fortunate at Sherwood to have such a high-calibre team dedicated to meeting the needs of every child.
