How to avoid chaos on Sartors Ave!

Jeff Johnstone —

Getting our students to and from school safely

You may have seen the senior leadership team on the road patrol crossing this week. More than once we have been shaking our heads at some of the driving and behavior we have witnessed by our parents. This has included cars doing a U-turn in front of the school, dropping off or picking up their kids on the yellow lines, and walking across the road without using the crossing.

Firstly, consider parking and walking to school...

  • Try parking a few streets away from the school and then walk your child to and from school (please ensure you don't block driveways or access to properties)
  • Check out the three entry points for our school and which would work best for you:
    • Sartors Ave (front exit)
    • King Richard Place walkway
    • Montclair Rise walkway (especially Year 0 & 1 families)
  • Please use the school crossing to cross Sartors Avenue - be a good example!

If you have to use your car, use the drop-off and pick-up zone like a pro!

  • use the drop-off and pick-up zone like a quick moving taxi rank
  • only get out of your vehicle if you need to quickly help your children get in and out safely (on the footpath side of the car)
  • never walk away from your vehicle
  • teach your children to look out for your vehicle and to get in quickly when you pull up
  • you are only allowed 2 minutes in the zone so if your children are not ready to get straight into your vehicle at pick-up time, you will need to drive around the block and queue to enter the area again!
