2021 Sports - Term 1

It looks like its going to be an exciting start for Sherwood sports this term with plenty of opportunities for students to get involved. Read on to find out what's on offer and how to register...

Welcome back to the sport zone, we hope you are excited to get back onto the court/field/pool! Below you will find a list of sports we have on offer for Term 1 as well as a few others which will pop up throughout the year. This list will change as we move through the year so keep an eye out for information in our newsletters and Facebook page. Alternatively feel free to contact Andrew at andrews@sherwoodprimary.school.nz for any PE/Sport related questions.

Term 1 Sports

Touch Rugby:
Available for students in Years 1 to 6. Games are played on Monday afternoons at Sunnynook Park. Final day for registrations: Friday 12th February 

Flippa Ball:
Available for students in Years 3 to 6. Games are played on Sunday afternoons at AUT Millennium. Final day for registrations: Sunday 14th February.

Miniball/Basketball:
Year 1&2 - East Coast Bays Leisure Centre League. Games are played on Thursday afternoons. Final day for registrations: Tuesday 16th February.

We are excited to offer new miniball/basketball opportunities for 2021.

Year 3&4 - Junior Breakers League. Games are played on Wednesday afternoons at Breakers HQ. Please note, at this stage we are only able to enter one team into this league with a maximum of 8 spaces on the team. Final day for registrations: Friday 19th February.

Year 3 to 6 - Harbour Basketball League. Games are played Tuesday afternoons at Massey University. Trials will take place on Monday 15th February (Year 3&4's) - 3.15pm - 4.15pm and Tuesday 16th February (Year 5&6's) - 3.15pm - 4.15pm. Anyone intending on playing in this league is welcome to come along. Please note, trials will be used to help develop well balanced teams. Final day for registrations: Thursday 18th February.

Primary Schools Rugby Festival
Available to students in Years 3 to 6. 

Festival dates:
Round 1 Thursday 3rd June (Save day Tuesday 8th June)
Round 2 Thursday 29th July (save day Tuesday 3rd August)
Round 3 Thursday 2nd September (save day 7th September)

There are 5 divisions for students to play in:
Year 3&4 Boys Rippa
Year 3&4 Girls Rippa
Year 5&6 Boys Rippa
Year 5&6 Girls Rippa
Year 5&6 Tackle - Please note tackle has a 55kg weight limit.

If there are not enough players to make an all boys/girls squad in a particular division then we will make a mixed team.

Weetbix Kids TRYathlon 
Hibiscus Coast - Sunday 28th March

The Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon is designed for Kiwi kids aged 7-15 years to help them stay active and healthy through a programme of participation. The series has been running since 1992 and is a rite of passage for Kiwi kids.  To date over 300,000 Kiwi kids have given it a TRY. Open to Kiwi kids of all sporting abilities the Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon is a fun day out for kids, parents and families. Participants get to swim, cycle, and run their way around age appropriate courses, either as an individual or as part of a team of two.
Every participant who enters receives:
a Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon medal downloadable certificate of achievement official Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon t-shirt, drawstring kit bag & swim cap, complimentary breakfast from the Weet-Bix Breakfast TentPLUS the chance to WIN awesome spot prizes and meet their sporting heroes.
