2019 Northern Bays Football Cluster

Sherwood competes in the annual football cluster held at East Coast Bays Football Club

It has been a year of firsts for our football teams. This year was the first time the event has been held at East Coast Bays Football Club which provided the perfect setting for the event. Not only is it a convenient walk from Sherwood but all schools were also lucky enough to use the clubhouse and changing rooms to escape the heavy downpours. This year was also the first time schools could include Year 3&4 teams.

From the start, our players were as energetic as a squirrel who's had 6 cups of coffee and were itching to get onto the pitch. Despite a midday drenching of rain, each team got to play most of their 5 games. Our teams conducted themselves professionally on and off the field with displays of brilliant sportsmanship and dazzling skills.

Our senior team had some tough competition this year. However, that didn't stop them from stepping up each and every game. From a convincing first game win, they were unlucky not to snatch a win from the other games. It was spectacular watching the team perform, from making crucial tackles at the back to working the ball up the line to feeding the strikers. There was no shortage of shots and excitement. The Year 5&6 team should be very proud of what they accomplished.

Our Year 3&4 team were confident going into this tournament and it was obvious why. Effective communication, crisp passing, and controlled touches allowed the team to slot in numerous goals in their opening games. From the starting whistle, the team dominated every game earning themselves a win each time. They confidently secured 2nd place after just missing out on the final against Greenhithe. Well done lads you should be extremely proud of being runners up in the first Year 3&4 Northern Bays Football Cluster!
