Harbour Hockey Visit Sherwood
Harbour Hockey spent two weeks at Sherwood introducing the sport to our students.
Over the last two weeks, students in Years 2, 3, 5 and 6 spent their time in PE developing their hockey skills. We were lucky enough to have two coaches from Harbour Hockey to deliver the sessions. (Don't worry those that missed out this year will get a chance next year!)
In the first session, students discovered how to correctly hold a hockey stick. Some were shocked to find out there is no such thing as a left handed hockey stick! They then practiced controlling a hockey ball while on the move. They practiced turning, dribbling and of course stopping the ball have a quick sprint. To finish off the last session, students had a go at learning various tricks such as juggling a ball on the stick as well as trying to balance it.
In the second session, students built on their previous learning by using their skills to try and control their ball while at the same time pushing another persons ball outside the square. The juniors further developed their tricks by practicing balancing and juggling skills. The seniors progressed to a modified game of softball which required them to use their hockey sticks to move the ball around instead of throwing and catching.
Thank you Judith, Hass & Sophie from Harbour Hockey for coming in and sharing your knowledge with our students.
We will be looking at entering some Sherwood teams in next year's Harbour Hockey League so for anyone interested in playing, keep an eye out for information about our teams :)
