Year 6 host Year 3 and 4 classes for a Mini-Olympics Day

As part of Year 6 PE, Rata students completed an Olympics Unit in Term 3. They were tasked with organising a Mini-Olympics Day for Year 3 and 4 classes.

Each Year 6 student was part of a coaching group. Once they had decided on a game/activity, each person had a specific role to learn about and then become responsible for:

  • Game Leader

  • Referee

  • Equipment Manager

  • Photographer

  • Score-keeper

The aim of the unit was for students to participate in a communal event and describe how such events enhance the well-being of the community. It was wonderful to see the interactions taking place between the different groups. Well done Year 6's on creating such a fun event for the younger classes!

This event also aligned with the learning that Rata did in the classroom. To conclude the unit, New Zealand Olympian Callum Gilbert (Canoe Slalom) visited our school on Wednesday. Callum shared his Olympic journey and hopefully inspired our students!
