Here are a few useful things to note as we return for the new school year.

A reminder of our expectations regarding uniform -

Black, brown, grey or navy blue.
Sports trainers/sneakers are recommended, however, leather shoes and sandals are acceptable.
No wheels, no flashing lights, no high heels.
Velcro fasteners are a good option if students cannot tie shoelaces.
Socks
Black, white, grey or navy blue (No stripes or patterns)
Thermal underwear/leggings
Black or navy blue (No stripes or patterns)
Hats
In Term 1 (and Term 4) all students are required to wear a uniform hat outside.
There are two options: a bucket-style hat, or a cap.
Coats
Any type of coat can be worn, but not inside the classroom.
Additional items
Students are allowed to wear a watch (not phone capable), and jewellery of cultural significance e.g. a Christian cross, Jewish star, Māori carving.
Earrings are allowed, however for safety reasons, only basic studs or sleepers are acceptable.
Basic hair accessories, including headbands are allowed at school. However, hair accessories that are a distraction to other students learning in school are not allowed e.g. hair accessories with soft toys attached
Please make items of uniform are clearly named so any misplaced items can be returned to your child.
Our Sherwood Parents Association (SPA) offer secondhand uniform sales. Contact them at spa@sherwoodprimary.school.nz if you have any questions about secondhand uniform. They also welcome donations if your child outgrows theirs.
Absences:
For your ease, we have included a section within the Seesaw app where you can notify the School if your child is going to be absent. This is a reliable and efficient way of letting us know and is our preferred option.
School Hours:
Start of Day
Our classrooms are open from 8:30 am and students are encouraged to arrive at this time in order to get set up for the day.
If students arrive before 8:30 am, they may come into the grounds and wait for the 8:30 am bell.
After 8:30 the may play on the playgrounds and hard court areas (not the turf)
No children should be at school unattended prior to 8:15 am. If they should be found early in the grounds they may be sent to BASC where a charge will occur.
The school day begins in the classroom at 8:50 am for roll call.
If students are late, they go to the office to collect a Late Card before going to their classroom.
Break Times
10:00 – 10:20 am, and 11:20 – 11:30 am.
Please make sure the children have a small, healthy snack and a water bottle for these breaks.
Lunch Break
12:30 - 1:25 pm
Lunch Eating
We eat our lunch at the end of the break at 1.10pm, after which children go straight into class for the afternoon programme.
Sherwood is an Enviro School and any wrappers that come to school in lunchboxes will go back home in lunchboxes. We do not have bins to accommodate food wrappers etc.
If your child is having a lunch order, please make sure you remember to provide them with morning tea also as it’s a long time until lunch eating. A small healthy brain food snack will keep them going until their lunch order arrives.
End of Day
School ends at 3:00 pm and children should be collected by around 3:15pm.
Please notify the office if you are delayed.
Children not collected may be sent to BASC where a charge will occur.
