Sherwood tackles the final round of the Primary Schools Rugby Festival

The final round of the Primary Schools Rugby Festival took place back in Week 3 which seems like a long time ago now. Once again our teams consisting of Year 3 to 6 students travelled to East Coast Bays Rugby Club to play a series of rippa games in the beautiful sunshine.

With the 2023 Rugby World Cup right around the corner, it was an excellent opportunity to celebrate the event. Each school was assigned a country that will be participating in the World Cup. Walking around the fields you could really feel the atmosphere with face paint and flags everywhere! See if you can work out what country Sherwood was assigned from the highlights video below...

Our teams put in a mammoth effort every game they played. They came across some tough opposition but showed real resilience to never give up. It was inspiring to watch. Most of the games were very close with only a few points either side for Sherwood or for their opposition. Well done to Year 5 & 6 Yellow team who went through the event undefeated with 3 wins and 1 draw.

A massive congratulations to all the students who participated in this year's events. Despite the lack of training due to the weather it was wonderful to see the progress you made in each game you played. The agility of your running, the accuracy of your passing, the consistent catching and the supporting play were next level! You should all be very proud of your efforts. We look forward to doing it all again next year...

A special thank you to the Long Bay College students who helped with our teams. They were simply amazing and were key to our teams' successes. Also a big thank you to the parents who helped on the day (especially when the tuck shop was closed and you had to do some bakery runs!)

Ngā mihi,
