Uniform:
A reminder of our expectations regarding uniform -
Shoes
Black, brown, grey or navy blue.
Sports trainers/sneakers are recommended, however, leather shoes and sandals are acceptable.
No wheels, no flashing lights, no high heels.
Velcro fasteners are a good option if students cannot tie shoelaces.
Socks
Black, white, grey or navy blue (No stripes or patterns)
Thermal underwear/leggings
Black or navy blue (No stripes or patterns)
Hats
In Term 4 (and Term 1) all students are required to wear a uniform hat outside.
There are two options: a bucket-style hat, or a cap.
Coats
Any type of coat can be worn, but not inside the classroom.
Additional items
Students are allowed to wear a watch (not phone capable), and jewellery of cultural significance e.g. a Christian cross, Jewish star, Māori carving.
Earrings are allowed, however for safety reasons, only basic studs or sleepers are acceptable.
Basic hair accessories, including headbands are allowed at school. However, hair accessories that are a distraction to other students learning in school are not allowed e.g. hair accessories with soft toys attached
Please make sure items of uniform are clearly named so any misplaced items can be returned to your child.
Our Sherwood Parents Association (SPA) offer secondhand uniform sales. Contact them at spa@sherwoodprimary.school.nz if you have any questions about secondhand uniform. They also welcome donations if your child outgrows theirs.
Absences:
For your ease, we have included a section within the Seesaw app where you can notify the School if your child is going to be absent. This is a reliable and efficient way of letting us know and is our preferred option.
School Hours:
Before School
In Term 4, we will trial the following new before school hours and rules:
8.50 a.m. - School starts. Students need to be ready to go into their classroom at this time.
8:30 a.m. - Classrooms are open and teachers are available to students and their families.
8:15 a.m. - Students are allowed in the school grounds. A student can only arrive at school earlier if an adult caregiver is supervising them (e.g. someone 14 years or older).
Before school starts, students are allowed to use the playgrounds, however, the turf is closed (unless supervised by a teacher).
Students who need to regularly arrive before 8:15 a.m. should be formally supervised as part of the Before and After School Care (BASC) programme. There is a small charge for this service. Phone 09 476 2594 for more details.
Students in the BASC programme are supervised until 8:30 a.m. when the classrooms are open for students.
If a student arrives regularly before 8:15 a.m., their parents will be contacted to either enrol their child in BASC or to arrange for their child to arrive at school after 8:15 a.m.
The school day begins in the classroom at 8:50 a.m. for roll call.
If students are late, they go to the office to collect a Late Card before going to their classroom.
Break Times
10:00 – 10:20 a.m. and 11:20 – 11:30 a.m.
Please make sure the children have a small, healthy snack and a water bottle for these breaks.
Lunch Break
12:30 - 1:25 p.m.
Lunch Eating
We eat our lunch at the end of the break at 1.10 p.m., after which children go straight into class for the afternoon programme.
Sherwood is an Enviro School and any wrappers that come to school in lunchboxes will go back home in lunchboxes. We do not have bins to accommodate food wrappers etc.
If your child is having a lunch order, please make sure you remember to provide them with morning tea also as it’s a long time until lunch eating. A small healthy brain food snack will keep them going until their lunch order arrives.
End of Day
School ends at 3:00 p.m. and children should be collected by around 3:15 p.m.
Please notify the office if you are delayed.
Children not collected may be sent to BASC where a charge will occur.
