Enviro Update

Karla AndersonSeptember 18, 2023

We have had a busy term learning and caring for our environment...

Spring has sprung in the garden, and around the school you can see all the beautiful flowers in bloom, and bees and butterflies returning to the school grounds which is great.

Our Year 5 & 6 Weeding Group continue to work with Julia from Restore Hibiscus and Bays to maintain and support our Native Tree area on the Embankment. Thank you to Julia and these students who are learning to care for our environment. Keep up the fantastic mahi.

We had been given some seeded potatoes to plant so we decided to upcycle some old unused bins. We have three bins in our back garden that are growing potatoes and we have been checking regularly and topping up with soil. As the leaves die off in the next term we hope to have lots of potatoes to eat. It is going to be interesting to see how many each bin produces.

After our garden produced a fantastic pumpkin patch it is now a new season where we have planted out a broccolini area. They are growing well as we have been weeding and learning about pest control along the way.

Lastly, the gardens around the new Music & ESOL classes are underway. After a bit of planning some lovely native hebes, ferns and flowers are being planted to enhance this space.

Thank you to all the great helpers in all of these projects who make our school look and feel good.
