On the morning of Monday 18th November, the sun streaked out into the sky to set the stage for a beautiful day of athletics.

Our annual Senior Athletics Day kicked off in the morning with students rotating around various stations involving running, jumping and throwing. This was then followed by the sprint finals and class relays in the afternoon.

This year we had the services of Miss Bell's Northcross class who assisted our amazing staff that were running each event. Thank you Miss Bell, your students did a stand up job and we appreciate the effort they put in to help our staff and students. A big thank you also to our classroom teachers and learning assistants for running each event and supporting the students.

With the weather playing it's part, conditions were set for athletes to give it their all as they tried to perform to the best of their ability. It was wonderful to see the students apply their learning to the day. Some athletic events have difficult movement sequences so it was inspiring to see their hard work pay off. Well done Sherwood Seniors, you should all be very proud of your efforts!

For the biggest event of the day, the Staff vs Rata relay race. This year's Rata students were a particularly fast cohort and had the staff trembling in fear. After putting out an SOS call, members from our school board, teachers, Northcross students and of course Mr. Johnstone answered the call.... And for the first time in 5 years, the staff can finally be crowned champions again! Thank you Team Rata for the challenge and a race well run.

There is still plenty of athletics action to come as we now look forward to our Junior students having their turn on Tuesday 26th November and our Northern Bays Athletics Squad competing on Monday 2nd December.
