Sherwood School — June 18, 2024
You are invited to celebrate Matariki (the Māori New Year) at Sherwood School.
On the morning of Wednesday 26 June, our school will celebrate Matariki by gathering for a dawn assembly followed by a shared breakfast (bring food for yourself and others to share).
This special celebration is an optional event for our families. Students should be accompanied by an adult at the breakfast unless they are involved in the Kapa Haka.
Afterwards, parents and family members are encouraged to visit their child's class to see what they have learnt about Matariki this year.
Here is the programme for the morning:
On arrival - Leave food contributions in the hall
7:15am - Gathering on the courts
7:30am - Opening Karakia (Blessing)
7:35am - Move into the hall for Kapa Haka performance
7:45am - Breakfast begins (Hot drinks available for a gold coin)
8:30am - Classrooms open
8:50am - Classroom Matariki activities begin
10:00am - Classroom Matariki activities finish
Feel free to come for as long as you are able.
